From the core emoji brush engine to Vector Paint Mode, AR Painting, the Framers animator workspace, and the daily community game — this page covers the full set of modes, tools and options the app actually ships with.
Every emoji becomes a brush stamp on a fast GPU canvas, with three interchangeable rendering engines under the hood depending on canvas size and device.
Opaque, transparent, and smudge (a directional colour-carry shader, not a blur) — with a smoothness control for the smudge brush.
Import your own PNG as a brush stamp — up to 100 saved custom brushes, each with its own size, opacity, spacing, rotation and mirror settings.
Pinch-to-zoom, two-finger pan, mirror & rotate controls, opacity, and a last-5-emoji quick pick — plus GPU/Metal/tile rendering that scales to large canvases.
A separate paint mode where strokes are stored as vector data instead of pixels, so they stay perfectly sharp no matter how far you zoom — the canvas expands with you as you pan and zoom, with no fixed edge to hit.
The same emoji-brush vocabulary as the main canvas, plus a straight-line/ruler tool and a vector-aware eraser.
Pin a photo in place at a fixed world position, then drag, rotate and scale it while you paint over it.
Save named camera viewpoints, then play back an animated flight between them and export it as a video.
Point your camera at a real wall, floor, or table. Once EmojiPainter recognizes the surface, tap to stamp emoji directly onto it in 3D — lighting and effects adjust to match the room around you. Requires a physical device; AR does not run in a simulator.
Strokes darken in dim rooms and warm up in bright ones, with distance fog so far-away strokes fade toward the room's ambient colour.
The virtual can settles onto the surface with a soft hover, casting a directional shadow that tracks it as you move.
The same brush mini-panel controls as the main canvas, without leaving AR.
A separate AR mode that tracks your face (TrueDepth camera required) and lets you paint directly onto a live 3D face mesh, with four mask styles: none, a hand-painted grey mask, your live camera feed projected onto the mesh, or a downloaded textured 3D head. A finger-smudge mode drags existing paint around the mask.
Framers turns drawing into a performance rather than a flipbook. Press play, and while the timeline loops, every stroke you paint sticks around for exactly as many frames as you set — then fades — like painting with a trail across a running clock. Pause, and it becomes ordinary single-frame drawing with onion-skin guides shown automatically.
FPS (1–60), Stroke Length in frames, and Total Frames (1–5000) — set exactly how long each mark lasts.
Marks are written to a run of upcoming frames starting wherever the playhead currently is, wrapping around at the loop's end.
Three GIF quality tiers, or an MP4/MOV export, rendered directly from your frame data.
A daily community game built around mystery paintings. Every mystery piece hides its topic behind a masked, fill-in-the-blank puzzle — you get exactly one guess per image, and a correct guess earns coins. Paint your own mystery piece as your 4th daily option and let the rest of the community try to solve it.
Submit a two-word topic idea — earn coins on submission, more if it's approved into the pool.
Each mystery painting allows a single guess attempt per person — +50 coins for a correct answer.
Your 4th daily painting option — the topic stays hidden in the gallery until someone solves it.
Three fresh topics appear every day — each with its own emoji, topic name and target time — plus the 4th mystery option above. A sprint timer counts down while you paint, and finished pieces upload automatically.
A real-time collaborative canvas shared with other painters over a live connection — a large tile grid you navigate around, seeing everyone's strokes appear as they paint.
Replays any painting session stroke-by-stroke as a scrubable video, with frame-step arrows that auto-pause on tap.
A separate multi-layer video composition tool with keyframed layers, project save/load, and its own export pipeline — distinct from Framers.
An optional, coin-gated workshop for AI-assisted restyling and generation — image restyling and ControlNet-guided generation, video restyle and style-preset generation (14 named "Slow Cinema" looks), and 3D generation including a selfie-to-rigged-head pipeline for your Social Passport avatar. Not included in the App Store Lite build.
An avatar identity automatically derived from your most recent gallery upload, with a dedicated Private Studio to create and animate it.
Browse other painters, follow them, and read their diary entries and timelines — no account or login required, ever.
Every upload lands in the live community gallery, ranked on a leaderboard by activity.
PIN-protected settings with an offline mode toggle, an optional daily time limit, and independent switches for daily challenges, the mystery challenge, gallery viewing, and uploads.
Share, upload and GIF export are all rendered directly from your stroke data for reliable, high-quality output — plus a guided in-app screen-recording tool for capturing real app footage.
